A new recruit of the Manila Police District tested positive for marijuana use during a random drug test spearheaded by the National Capital Region Police Office.
Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, NCRPO chief, identified the police recruit as Police Patrolman Darwin Resurrecion, assigned to the Regional Special Training Unit of the NCRPO.
Sinas said he conducted a field visit at the MPD headquarters in Ermita, Manila last Oct. 21 where he spoke to the 294 new police recruits before he conducted a surprise, random drug test.
“Out of 294 recruits, one tested positive for use of marijuana. This day (Friday), I directed the training chief of the MPD to issue a ‘return to unit’ of this recruit para (to) mag-undergo ng termination process,” Sinas said.
Sinas said the police recruit has finished six months of basic recruitment training and was already on his third month of field training program or on the job training before becoming a full pledged cop.
During the field training, a police recruit is subjected to different police works such as patrolling, crime investigation, and manning traffic.
In the course of the training, Sinas said the recruits are undergoing rotation in the five police districts which are under the jurisdiction of the NCRPO.
“Binigay ‘yan sa amin for field training. During the course, ang idea ay iniikot sa police districts while continuous ang drug testing on all levels. Nagpadrug test ako at nag positive siya for marijuana use. It was confirmed by the Crime Laboratory,” Sinas said.
He issued a stern warning to drug users not to join the police force as they will just add to the numerous problems of the Metro Manila police in dealing with narco-cops, or those policemen involved in illegal drug activities.
“Kung talagang user ka, once magtest ka, lalabas at lalabas ‘yan. ‘Yung mga drug addict natin kung planong magpulis, huwag na. Dagdag pa kayo ng sakit sa ulo namin. Tigil tigilan niyo na,” Sinas said. (Martin Sadongdong)
