Vendors will not be allowed inside the Manila North Cemetery and Manila South Cemetery during the observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said.
The Manila mayor said the main purpose of “Undas” is to pay respect to departed loved ones and not to make profit out of it.
Domagoso said that for the past several years, having vendors inside the two city-run cemeteries have become a source of feuds among corrupt city employees.
He said the observance of Undas should be kept “orderly” and “solemn.”
Domagoso ordered Department of Public Services chief Kenneth Amurao and City Engineer Armand Andres to alternately clean up the two cemeteries.
He also advised the public to throw their garbage in trash bins instead of leaving them behind.
At least 70 informal settler-families have so far been removed in the Manila North Cemetery, Amurao said.
Meanwhile, the local government of Manila launched the widest incentivized plastic waste collection dubbed as “Kolek, Kilo, Kita para Walastik sa Maynila” program in Tondo, Manila Saturday.
This is the first and widest incentivized collection program for flexible plastic waste under Domagoso’s “May Pera sa Basura” agenda in partnership with the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission, Unilever Philippines, Cemex, and Republic Cement which aims to address proper waste disposal in the country.
Under the program, residents will not be paid money but they will get reusable products from Unilever Philippines. (Erma Edera)
