CEBU CITY – Never post your whereabouts on social media.
This is one of the security tips given by the police as they geared up for the observance of All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day.
“Avoid posting your whereabouts on social media because you’re giving the criminals an idea that no one is at home,” said Cebu City police chief Police Col. Gemma Vinluan.
As much as possible, she said, somebody should stay at home while other family members are in cemetery to visit the departed loved ones.
“If it cannot be avoided that someone should stay behind, make sure to lock the doors or release your dogs in the backyard to ward off burglars,” said Vinluan.
When outdoors, avoid wearing jewelry and bringing fancy objects so as not to attract thieves, Vinluan added.
Security has been tightened in terminals, sea ports, and airports in Cebu.
Close to 2,000 personnel will be deployed to ensure peace and order during the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day in Cebu, said Col. Roderick Mariano, chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.
Mariano said 1,794 policemen will be deployed to man cemeteries, terminals, ports, and other public places in the province. Barangay tanods were also tapped to assist the police managing traffic in cemeteries situated near major thoroughfares.
Authorities likewise reminded those will be going to the cemeteries not to create loud noise and avoid bringing prohibited items such as sharp objects and liquor. (Calvin D. Cordova)
