TACURONG CITY – A radio broadcaster was shot in Barangay New Isabela, this city, yesterday.
Police Lt. Col. Rey Egos, Tacurong police chief, identified the victim as Benjie Caballero, station manager of Radyo ni Juan based in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.
Egos said the victim was waiting for a ride in front of his house when two men on board a motorcycle arrived. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and opened fire at the victim.
The victim sustained a bullet wound in the chest and was taken to a hospital in Tacurong where he is in critical condition.
Police recovered two empty shells from a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.
Egos said the victim had received threats prior to the incident but did not report these to the police.
The attack came as police here are still investigating the series of shooting incidents perpetrated by motorcycle-riding men in the past few months.
Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco, executive director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security, has ordered the police to conduct deeper investigation on the incident and identify the perpetrators.
He said Caballero has been a critic of a known political clan in Sultan Kudarat. (Joseph Jubelag)
