Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” T. Go assured the nation yesterday that President Duterte is safe following a strong earthquake that hit Davao city and other parts of Mindanao.
President, a former Davao City Mayor, was at his bathroom when the quake struck the city, he said.
The President’s house in Davao city suffered several cracks but it is habitable, he added.
Go himself, a Davao city resident, said he was having his morning coffee when his cup shook in his apartment.
He said he and the President were both shaken by the earthquake.
Go said there are still no changes to the projected trip of the President to Thailand to attend an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit.
Go reminded Mindanao residents to take care of themselves first before going to evacuation centers with their belongings.
“This is the time for everybody to help one another, hear only legitimate radio stations and do not believe fake news and disinformation,” he stressed.
“Kailangang maging vigilant ang lahat at unahin ang kaligtasan sa mga ganitong uri ng kalamidad,” he added. (We should all be vigilant and focus on our safety during this time of calamity.) (Mario B. Casayuran)
