A double victory for University of Santo Tomas yesterday as Soulemane Chabi Yo and Grace Irebu were named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in their respective divisions.
Pending the official announcement, the Benin-native Chabi Yo will become the first UST male player to win the coveted award since Dylan Ababou did the trick in 2009.
The 6-foot-6 forward collected 76 statistical points (SPs) after averaging 16.9 points, 14.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in the two-round eliminations.
Congolese center Irebu, meanwhile, took home the women’s MVP for the second straight season, becoming the first UST female player to win the award since Marichu Bacaro in 2008.
Mark Nonoy, another UST standout, also took the podium with the Rookie of the Year award after finishing with 39.39 SPs, while La Salle’s Kent Pastrana pocketed the ROY plum in the distaff side.
The UST stars are also expected to lead the mythical selections.
The presentation of individual awards will be on Nov. 20 at the Mall of Asia Arena. (Kristel Satumbaga)
