BACOLOD CITY – Police are looking for a woman who allegedly abducted a 17-day-old baby boy while the child’s mother was having a hair treatment at a salon here Monday.
Maj. Jovil Sedel, head of Police Station 1, said the unidentified suspect approached 24-year-old Mary Grace Goto at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here where she brought her son for a medical check-up.
The suspect allegedly talked to her and introduced herself as their relative.
“She (suspect) just pretended to be a relative of the child’s mother to persuade the latter to go with her for a hair treatment,” Sedel said.
When they left the hospital, the suspect brought the child’s mother to a shopping mall but later on decided to go to the downtown area, where they found a salon.
Sedel said the suspect volunteered to take care the baby while the victim was having a hair treatment at the salon.
“She (suspect) was outside the salon carrying the baby when she suddenly left to buy food,” the station commander said.
However, the suspect failed to return after an hour, prompting the mother to call for police assistance.
Police have already a copy of a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the shopping mall which can help them identify the suspect.
They sent a copy of the CCTV footage to the members of the media to help them identify the suspect.
Sedel said they also informed the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in case the suspect and the baby will be spotted at the sea ports.
As of 10 p.m., the baby was still reported missing. (Glazyl Masculino)
