BUTUAN CITY – An Australian was arrested by authorities for allegedly carrying dried marijuana leaves in a resort in Barangay Catangnan, Gen. Luna, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte Wednesday.
Dindo Abellanosa, spokesperson of the regional Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, identified the suspect as Michael AufzieJczyk, alias “Mickey,” 41.
The suspect, who is temporary residing at Sunset Bay Villas in Barangay Catangnan, was nabbed at 10:55 p.m. after government agents found in his possession 30 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing dried leaves and seeds believed to be marijuana worth P30,000. Also seized from the foreigner were 10 live bullets and his passport.
Joint elements of the PDEA, Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office, and Gen. Luna Municipal Police Station raided the suspect’s pad based on a search warrant issued by Judge Cesar P. Bordalba of the Regional Trial Court Branch 31 in Dapa, Siargao Island.
The suspect will be charged with violation of the anti-drugs law and illegal possession of live ammunition, according to Abellanosa. (Mike Crismundo)
