CEBU CITY – Assorted firearms were seized from a suspected gunrunner in Danao City, Cebu Wednesday.
Renato Ramoneda was arrested after he agreed to sell assorted firearms worth P108,000 to a Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas operative poseur-buyer in Barangay Guinsay.
Police Major Ronald Allan Tolosa, deputy chief of CIDG 7, said Ramoneda had a black backpack when he met the CIDG 7 operative.
Shortly after he received the supposed payment for the firearms, a team of CIDG operatives moved in and arrested the suspect.
Found inside the backpack were two KG9 machine pistols, six .45 caliber pistols, four 9mm caliber pistols, a silencer for a KG9 machine pistol, and 14 assorted magazines.
Ramoneda said he was commissioned to deliver the firearms. “I didn’t know who owns the firearms. I was just paid P500 per firearm,” he said.
Ramoneda admitted he was jailed for the same offense in 2013.
Tolosa said Ramoneda is a member of a big-time gun-running syndicate in Danao, a known gun manufacturer in the province.
“Based on this arrest, we can say that gunrunning activities remain rampant in Danao,” said Tolosa. (Calvin D. Cordova)
