Two fixers were arrested by police at the Manila City Hall after they allegedly attempted to charge a married couple P5,000 to process the late birth certificate registration of their child on Thursday.
Police said the suspects — Rosalinda Lagatierra, 60, and Catherine Corpuz, 42 –were nabbed during an entrapment operation led by the Manila Police District Special Mayor’s Reaction Team (SMaRT) and the Manila Civil Registry Office (MCRO).
The operation was made after the victim, Quirico Corpuz, filed a complaint with the MPD-SMaRT.
The victim accused the suspects of charging P5,000 to “fix” the late registration of his son before they could issue a Certificate of Live birth.
According to Manila Civil Registry Office (MCRO) chief Atty. Chris Tenorio, the city government only charges P240 for the late registration of birth certificates.
The MCPO chief warned fixers who are still operating at city hall to stop their illegal activities.
“Tumigil na kayo. Ang mandato ng ating Punong Lungsod ay itigil ang lahat ng ilegal na transaksyon sa Manila City Hall,” Tenorio said.
The suspects are now facing robbery extortion charges. (Erma Edera)
