Four policemen, who were apprehended for allegedly extorting money from the family of an arrested drug suspect, was charged with kidnapping-for-ransom and violation of the anti-torture law before the Department of Justice (DoJ).
The Philippine National Police-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) presented the four policemen for inquest before Assistant State Prosecutor Susan Villanueva on Thursday afternoon.
They were identified as Corporals Nickson Mina, Juan Carlo Guzman, and Francis Mikko Gagarin, and Patrolman Tom Hikilan, all members of the Manila Police District Station 4.
The four were arrested Wednesday morning during an entrapment operation set-up by the PNP.
During the operation, police operatives caught the suspects in the act of receiving P200,000 in marked money.
The PNP-IMEG acted on the complaint of the family of an arrested drug suspect.
The family alleged that the four policemen demanded P500,000 for the release of the drug suspect who was also tortured following his arrest last November 12. (Jeffrey Damicog)
