The commander of the Manila Police District Baseco compound Police Community Precinct was sacked from his post following the arrest of four of his men for allegedly extorting money from the wife of a drug suspect.
The NCRPO leadership did not name the sacked PCP commander but his replacement was Police Capt. Javen Dominguez.
“The police commander has so many accomplishments in the area and based on the investigation, he has no involvement in that incident,” said Police Major Britz Estadilla, spokesman of the National Capital Region Police Office.
NCRPO director Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas said that he initiated a dialogue with policemen assigned at Baseco to remind them against any wrongdoings.
“I reminded them of the existing no-take policy of the NCRPO. I told them that I will not hesitate to file cases and relieved cops proven to be involved in illegal activities,” said Sinas.
Anti-scalawag operatives of the Philippine National Police had earlier arrested the four policemen in an entrapment conducted after they demanded P200,000 in exchange for the release of the drug suspect they arrested.
They were identified as Police Corporals Nickson Mina, Juan Carlo Guzman, and Francis Mikko Gagarin; and Police Patrolman Tom Hikilan.
They were arrested after receiving the P200,000 marked money right inside the police station.
Sinas said the dialogue with Baseco policemen is also aimed at conducting an in-depth probe on the extent of corruption in the PCP.
“This is to delve deeper into the details of the case and the possible involvement of other Baseco PCP personnel in the kidnapping and extortion,” said Sinas.
“The dialogue also served as a venue to address the needs of the community and also to assess the delivery of police service of said police office,” he added.
