Slow-moving tropical storm “Ramon” (international name “Kalmaegi”) has yet to make landfall over Northern Luzon but a new low-pressure area east of Visayas could enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility tomorrow.
After being stationary over the Philippine Sea in the past few days, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weatherman Benison Estareja said Ramon was moving slowly at 10 kilometers per hour yesterday morning.
It was estimated 395 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, and maintained its maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph before noon yesterday.
Should Ramon retain its north-northwest track, Estareja said the tropical cyclone could make landfall over the northeastern part of Cagayan tonight or tomorrow morning.
PAGASA has raised tropical cyclone wind Signal No. 1 over Cagayan and Isabela and the northern portion of Aurora, particularly Dilasag, Casiguran, and Dinalungan.
Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains are being felt over the eastern sections of Cagayan and Isabela yesterday.
Today, PAGASA said light to moderate with occasional heavy rains may affect Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, and Ilocos Norte, while light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may prevail in Babuyan Islands, Abra, Ifugao, Mountain Province, northern Aurora, and Quirino. (Ellalyn Ruiz)
