An Army lieutenant and three other soldiers died while seven others, including another military official with a rank of lieutenant colonel, were injured on Tuesday when a truck hit a tricycle and a pick-up in Paranas town of Samar.
A report reaching Camp Crame in Quezon City identified the fatalities as 2Lt. Charife Cabanog, Staff Sgt. Crisostomo Gabuay, Sgt. Sherwin Antonio and Staff Sgt. Romel Ombrog. They all died on the spot.
The truck, driven by 44-year old Elvin Brillanes, was travelling along the descending portion of a highway in Barangay Apolonia in Paranas town at around 9 a.m. when it hit the tricycle on its front.
The driver and passengers of the tricycle, identified as Warren Dabuet, Jella Bacay Baccol, Sheryl Sayasa Maurillo, and Janica Baco, were all injured.
“The truck driver maneuvered the vehicle on the opposite lane but it hit the pick-up,” the report read.
Aside from the four fatalities, three more soldiers are on board the pick-up. They were identified as Lt. Col. Edgar Allan Orbito, Private Mat Raymond Barrantes and Sgt. Nixon Abadiano. The three were injured.
The pick-up, according to the local police, was dragged and crashed on a house alongside the road.
