A 21-year-old Manila traffic enforcer, who was injured after being dragged by a reckless driver through the streets of Manila, was promoted from being a job order worker to a regular employee on Monday.
Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced the promotion of Adrian Lim, a member of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB).
The mayor also lauded Lim for risking his life when he pulled over a reckless driver for a traffic violation.
On Saturday, a closed circuit television footage showed Lim hanging on the window of a gray Mitsubishi Xpander, which has gone viral on Facebook.
He later fell off from the moving vehicle after he lost his grip. Lim was rushed to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center after sustaining injuries.
“Look at him, he’s a job order worker. His salary is only R6,000. Then there’s this one rude man, who can afford to buy a car but could not pay a fine of R500. He tried to escape this traffic enforcer,” Domagoso said.
“I don’t know what entered his mind why he disregarded his own safety and his life to do his duties. He hold on to the vehicle. Why? Because he wanted to enforce the law against the violators,” he added.
The driver of the SUV, identified as Orlando Ricardo Dizon Jr., was later apprehended by police along Oroquieta Street corner Tayuman Street in Barangay 366, Santa Cruz.
Dizon attempted to evade apprehension for disregarding lane markings. The traffic violation fee is R500.
Lim said Dizon also punched him, which the driver denied.
On the other hand, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) suspended the driver’s license of Dizon for three months as the vehicle involved in the incident has been “tagged for an alarm”. (Erma Edera)
