Vice President and drug czar Leni Robredo may not have the trust of President Duterte but she will keep her post until she is told to do so.
Robredo, co-chair of the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs, said it’s difficult to understand how Duterte doesn’t trust her when he appointed her to the ICAD post.
“Mahirap intindihin na walang tiwala sa akin, pero in-appoint ako,” she said in a media interview after her meeting at the Dangerous Drugs Board office in Quezon City.
Nevertheless, Robredo said she will continue to do her job in leading the government’s anti-illegal drugs campaign despite Duterte’s tirade.
“But again, like what I have said: the mere fact that I’m given this job, I will do it with all my heart,” she said. “It is always worth working for something we believe in. For me, I believe I can contribute a lot in the campaign against illegal drugs,” Robredo noted.
The ICAD co-chair was responding to Duterte’s remarks on Tuesday night that she could not be trusted to make her part of his Cabinet.
Duterte criticized how Robredo has been meeting with various international organizations critical of his drug war after she accepted the ICAD post.
But the Chief Executive maintained that he would not fire Robredo, noting that she will only be on a “need-to-know” category in obtaining classified information on the drug war. (Raymund Antonio)
