BACOLOD CITY – A drunk father was allegedly shot dead by his eight-year-old son after he scolded and kicked the child upon seeing him playing with a gun inside their house in Barangay San Jose, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, Wednesday night.
Police withheld the name of the 39-year-old victim and the suspect upon the request of the family.
Cpl. Mark Mabayag, case investigator of Sipalay City Police Station, said the victim came home around 8 p.m. and saw his son allegedly holding and toying with his .38-caliber revolver.
The victim scolded his son, telling him not to play with the gun because it’s dangerous. He then allegedly kicked the child on the face, prompting the latter to shoot his father twice using the said firearm, the investigator said.
The victim succumbed to two gunshot wounds in the chest. He will be subjected to post mortem examination.
Mabayag said that the suspect was aware that he killed his father but he instead went to bed and sleep, while his two elder brothers were already crying and calling for help from their neighbors.
The police officer said the victim, as a laborer, was not authorize to possess any firearm.
Mabayag said the minor suspect is now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) while awaiting for his mother to come home from Manila where she is working.
