With still two years and eight months before he steps down, President Duterte vowed to the public that there will be clean elections in 2022 as he reassured Filipinos that he will not stay a second longer in the highest seat in the government when his time runs out.
Duterte made the statement as he led the inauguration of the Phas 2 of the coal-fired power plant of the Sarangani Energy Corporation in Maasim, Sarangani last night.
In his speech, Duterte lauded how energized Mindanao currently because politicians would find it difficult to cheat in the upcoming 2022 presidential elections.
“I’m pleased to note that since June 2016, the power supply in Mindanao has greatly improved. From experiencing power deficiencies which resulted in the power interruptions in the past, it currently has excess power generation,” he said.
“Siguro naman sa politiko mahirap na magdaya ngayong 2022 with the kind of brightness that we are about to experience. Meron na tayong energy, ang kailangan na lang natin yung mga politiko nagpuputol ng kuryente,” he added.
Despite recognizing that it was still too early to talk about the upcoming polls, Duterte assured the public that he will not allow anyone to derail the elections.
“You know, it’s too far away to be speculating or talking about it but I am on my way out. What I can assure you, ladies and gentlemen, that it will be a clean election during that time. I will not allow anybody, friend or foe, alliances with us and on the other side, it will be equal treatment for all,” he said. (Argyll Geducos)
