A Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) officer was gunned down in broad daylight Wednesday by two motorcycle-riding gunmen near the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
Initial information reaching BuCor spokesperson Maj. Albert Tapiru identified the victim as CO1 Porferio Bergula.
Police investigation showed that the incident happened just about 400 meters away from the national penitentiary around 10:30 a.m.
Police said that Bergula was in front of the Poblacion Market when two motorcycle-riding assailants approached and shot him.
The gunmen then fled towards the direction of San Guillermo St., police added.
Col. Gerardo Umayao, Muntinlupa police chief, said that the victim was rushed to Medical Center Muntinlupa where he was declared dead on arrival.
