BACOLOD CITY – A 19-year-old boy who was reportedly drunk is now under police custody after he temporarily caused inconvenience to motorists when he tried to jump off the flyover on Araneta-Magsaysay St. here Tuesday morning.
Major Charles Gever, head of Police Station 8, withheld the name of the male teenager from Barangay Taculing here.
Gever said the teenager went on top of the flyover and attempted to commit suicide while it was raining hard around 9 a.m. Rescuers prepared foams below the flyover in case the teenager pursued jumping.
Police Patrolman Joseph Reyes and Police Patrolman Lorie Jane Metoda who were assigned as beat patrollers in the area responded and negotiated with the teenager.
After a few minutes, a policeman came near him and subdued him while a motorist who stopped at the flyover was getting his attention as part of the negotiation process. He was then brought to the police station for custody.
Gever said that the teenager was having a family problem which triggered him to act that way.
He will be released from detention after the 12-hour reglementary period if nobody will file alarm and scandal charges against him.
Gever said the incident did not cause temporary road closure in the area as it was immediately addressed by the authorities. (Glazyl Masculino)
