Setting aside political differences, Vice President Leni Robredo yesterday praised the opening ceremony of the Southeast Asian Games.
Robredo, who is the leader of the opposition, said it was a proud moment for all Filipinos when the SEAG officially opened Saturday at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
The Vice President congratulated the organizers behind the successful opening ceremony that saw more than 5,000 athletes from 11 competing nations taking center stage. She also thanked Filipino performers and athletes who participated in the opening of the 11-day biennial event.
“Nakaka-proud maging Pinoy! Maraming salamat sa ating mga atleta, world champions, mga tagapagtanghal, and to everyone behind the #SEAGames2019 opening ceremony,” she said in a tweet.
“Ang dami nating maipagmamalaki bilang isang bansa – at pinakamalakas tayo kapag ang alab ng puso ay iisa #WeWinAsOne,” she added with an emoticon of a Philippine flag.
Robredo was unable to watch the opening ceremony live, but she made sure her voice was heard supporting Filipino athletes.
“Kagabi nasa isa akong event. Nakita ko iyong video noong nakarating na ako ng bahay. Napakaganda ng opening lalo na iyong panahon na lumabas iyong mga atleta,” she said on her radio show “BISErbisyong Leni” yesterday.
“Maraming naging problema, maraming puna. Sa atin lang, iyong problema saka puna andiyan lang iyan pero ngayon na napapalaban ‘yung ating mga atleta, sana buong buo iyong suporta natin,” she said. (Raymund F. Antonio)
