AGATHA Wong re-stamped her class and won the women’s taolu taijiquan event for the second straight year in the 30th SEA Games yesterday at the World Trade Center.
She finished with 9.67 points to beat out Brunei Darussalam’s Basma Lachikar (9.55) and Vietnam’s Thi Minh Huyen Tran (9.53).
She immediately dedicated her gold medal win to her late 11-year-old teammate.
“I would like to dedicate my performance to my teammate Rastafari Daraliay who recently passed away,” said Wong, who got emotional during an interview.
Daraliay passed away last September after reportedly falling from the top bunk of a double-deck bed inside the athletes’ dormitory at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate.
“This is for him,” added the 21-year-old Wong.
Wong, however, confessed she did not expect to win, and was just happy after being able to deliver her performance.
“I have really bad cramps and my feet hurt. This year, I just trained all year round so we were all very tired,” she bared.
Daniel Latawan settled for bronze in the men’s side.
