THE Philippine polo team starts its gold medal campaign against Malaysia in the 0-2 goals event in the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the Miguel Romero Polo Field in Calatagan, Batangas should a fair weather side with the country today.
With the impending threat brought by Typhoon “Tisoy,” officials are hoping that the field will be at playable state.
Nationals team captain and Rep. Mikee Romero also shared the same sentiments. “We’re praying that it will not rain so hard here so we can start our event.”
“We’re all excited to play.”
“Tisoy” is expected to hit Bicol region, particularly Virac, Catanduanes.
The four-day event will be moved Tuesday, with the finals on Sunday, if officials deemed the field not playable.
The 0-2 goals division, composed of Coco Garcia, Nicole Eusebio, Jam Eusebio, Santi Juban, veteran Antonio Veloso and Romero, will shoot for the gold and exact revenge after its 4-6 goals counterpart fall to Malaysia and settled for silver.
Clashing in the other game are Brunei and Indonesia.
Prince Jeffri and Prince Qawi, royalties from Brunei, are also out to compete with horses of their own.
The best two teams with the best winning record after battling each other will face in the final.
“Everybody is determined to contribute to the country’s bid to win the overall championship and we are all inspired after the explosive first day,” Romero added.
