FOR the safety of athletes, officials and spectators, the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) yesterday postponed several events due to foul weather brought about by typhoon “Tisoy”.
In a statement released late Monday, some events in Subic were adjusted in anticipation of heavy rains and strong winds.
Canoe/kayak and traditional boat races were scheduled from Friday to Sunday while sailing and windsurfing races were reset tomorrow.
Modern pentathlon was also rescheduled tomorrow, but if weather cooperates, polo, surfing, muaythai and skateboarding will be held today.
Polo’s 0-2 goals division was scheduled yesterday at the Miguel Romero Field in Calatagan, Batangas.
Meantime, the organizers are also monitoring the departure and arrival of athletes in light of the weather condition.
Phisgoc COO Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara said they have provided contingency plans particularly on stranded teams to avoid inconvenience.
The Myanmar arnis team’s flight back home was reportedly cancelled after airports suspended all Tuesday flights from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. But Suzara said they provided accommodations and meals for the team while their flights are being rescheduled.
The Indonesian arnis team is also reportedly departing Tuesday night, but PHISGOC assured everything would be taken care of in case of cancellations.
