President Duterte has approved the promotion of Maj. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar to the next rank following his appointment as the number four man of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
From Major General, Eleazar is set to formally receive the third star rank, or Lieutenant General, in an oath-taking and donning of the rank on Thursday.
Eleazar was named as the Chief of Directorial Staff of the PNP in October. He used to be the director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
A member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1987, Eleazar is among the top contenders for the PNP top post which remains vacant after the resignation of retired general Oscar Albayalde.
In a letter dated November 29, President Duterte had notified Interior Secretary Eduardo Ano on the promotion of Eleazar as Lieutenant General, a rank that fits his position as PNP’s number four man.
During his stint as NCRPO chief, Eleazar is known for imposing strict discipline on policemen and in punishing erring cops and rewarding those who made the police organization proud.
