A 65-year-old man with nasopharyngeal cancer, who has been receiving assistance from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) for his chemotherapy, bagged the over P50-million jackpot prize of Super Lotto 6/49 last Sunday.
PCSO General Manager Royina Marzan-Garma handed over the check to the lucky bettor from Cavite at the PCSO’s main office in Mandaluyong City.
“Meron siyang nasopharyngeal cancer. Nakakatangap siya ng chemo assistance sa PCSO. Hindi niya akalain makakatangap din siya ng cheke na panalo,” Garma shared to reporters.
The bettor told Garma that the cash prize was the best gift he has received for his upcoming birthday next week.
“Lucky pick ‘yung ticket and birthday ng winner next week,” Garma added.
The PCSO general manager said the loyal lotto bettor, who placed his bet at an outlet in Baclaran, Parañaque City, has been purchasing lotto tickets for 30 years.
He told Garma that he will use the money for his medical treatment and to help his family.
The PCSO gave the lucky bettor a LandBank check after he presented his winning ticket and valid government-issued identification cards.
The winner, however, did not take home the entire jackpot prize for the government deducted a 20 percent tax from the total winning prize as mandated by the TRAIN Law. About P10 million was deducted from the total cash prize.
During Sunday night’s draw, the Super Lotto 6/49 has a total jackpot prize of P50,305,924 with a winning combination of 35-38-09-17-10-15.
The Super Lotto 6/49 is drawn every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, a lone bettor won the P71-million jackpot prize of Lotto 6/42 during a draw on Tuesday night, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) said.
The PCSO said the lucky bettor, who placed his/her bet at a lotto outlet in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, became its latest millionaire after picking all of the winning combination.
During Tuesday night’s draw, the winning combination of Lotto 6/42 was 26-23-12-01-34-17 and it had a total jackpot prize of P71,768,302.
