More than P2-billion worth of crops in five regions have been damaged due to typhoon “Tisoy” (international name “Kammuri”).
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said crop damage reached P2,096,564,965.50 in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas.
A report signed and released by NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad said damaged were rice, corn, and high-value crop plantations, as well as fishery, livestock, and agriculture infrastructure.
Seventy-eight thousand, six-hundred ninety-one houses were damaged and destroyed by Tisoy in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.
Two-thousand, one-hundred ninety-three schools were damaged by Tisoy in the Cordillera, Caraga, Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.
President Duterte on Thursday lauded government response to the effects of typhoon “Tisoy” because all agencies concerned knew what to do before, during, and after the crisis.
Duterte, during the briefing on the effects of the latest typhoon in Legazpi City, Albay, congratulated the government agencies involved for a job well done and lauded how he had a good team helping him run the country.
“I congratulate you for a job well done,” he said. “I have a good team dito sa gobyerno. I can assure you that they are good, they are not corrupt, and they are well-versed,” he added.
The President said he was mostly satisfied because the government agencies already knew what to do even before the typhoon entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Nov. 30.
“Apparently the government agencies knew what to do before the typhoon hit, its landfall, what to do during the entire crisis, and after. So, I am more than satisfied with the response,” Duterte said. (PNA and Argyll Geducos)
