The Philippine Army yesterday reiterated its commitment to promote and value the human rights of every Filipino, in time for the commemoration of the National Human Rights Consciousness Week.
“The PA, along with the implementation of its institutional transformation, is strictly adhering to the rule of law, the International Humanitarian Law, as well as other related laws and policies that promote and advocate respect for human rights,” said Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay, newly designated Army commanding general.
Republic Act No. 9201 declared Dec. 4 to 10 as the National Human Rights Consciousness Week.
Gapay claimed that the Army has a net trust rating of +79 and a net satisfaction rating of +75 in 2018.
“The high levels of trust and approval that we are experiencing today are because of the hard work that has been done, as well as the commitment that we have all made to transform our institution and ourselves,” he said as he addressed Army personnel during his first flag-raising ceremony as the Army chief at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Gapay added that at present, the Army has “zero” record of human rights violations.
He said that the 98,000-strong Army will continue to protect and serve the nation while aiming to effect significant development in its systems under his leadership. (Martin A. Sadongdong)
