Monday morning was slightly cold and breezy for Baguio City and Metro Manila residents as air temperature dropped to 11.8 degrees Celsius and 21.9 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Yesterday was the coldest day so far for both areas since the start of the “amihan” or northeast monsoon season last Oct. 25.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Ariel Rojas said the lowest temperature reading in Baguio City was recorded around 6 a.m.
PAGASA data showed the lowest ever temperature recorded in Baguio City was 6.3 degrees Celsius on Jan. 18, 1961.
Rojas said the lowest temperature in Metro Manila was observed at around 5:30 a.m. at the PAGASA Science Garden monitoring station in Quezon City.
The coldest day in history in Metro Manila was registered twice, on Feb. 4, 1987 and Dec. 30, 1988, at 15.1 degrees Celsius.
Monday’s cold weather was attributed to the amihan.
