CEBU CITY – A 33-year-old woman assaulted a promodizer inside a mall in an incident that had gone viral on social media.
Police arrested the woman, Medelina Yamazaki, a native of Negros Occidental who is married to a Japanese national.
A netizen uploaded a video of the incident, which happened at around 7 p.m. last Saturday night inside an uptown mall here.
It has drawn 16,000 reactions, 956,000 views, and 15,000 shares since the video was uploaded.
In the video, Yamazaki was carrying her baby while berating 26-year-old Jennifer Fabillar, a promodizer of a fragrance company. Yamazaki was with her husband at the time but did nothing to prevent the attack.
According to the police, trouble started when Fabillar asked Yamazaki not to let her child touch the humidifier for fear that it would be damaged and the baby would get an electric shock.
Yamazaki allegedly got irked and threw the humidifier at the promodizer. In the video, Yamazaki threw some things at Fabillar while shouting “I will kill you” at one point.
Fabillar was seen in the video covering her left eye that was bloodied after it was hit by the humidifier. The promodizer also sustained a bruised cheek.
Mallgoers and security guards intervened and reprimanded Yamazaki.
The promodizer reported to the Mabolo police station after the incident.
Police Major Dindo Alaras, chief of the Mabolo police station, said Yamazaki was arrested last Sunday in their condominium near the mall where the incident happened.
Yamazaki refused to talk when reporters sought for her comment on the arrest.
Police were set to file charges for physical injuries against Yamazaki yesterday afternoon. (Calvin D. Cordova)
