BACOLOD CITY – A soldier, who was earlier arrested for alleged sexual molestation, was wounded when a 24-year-old woman stabbed him with a pair of scissors inside Police Station 2 here last Sunday.
Maj. Sherlock Gabana, head of Police Station 2, said the soldier identified as Deo Balangen, 32, of La Trinidad, Benguet, was in handcuffs at the lobby of the police station when the female suspect attacked him.
Balangen sustained stab wounds in the back and neck, and rushed to a hospital while the woman was placed under police custody.
Gabana said the suspect stabbed Balangen for allegedly sexually molesting her 17-year-old cousin who has special needs in a village last Saturday.
“He was really angry at the suspect,” the station commander added.
Gabana said Balangen was not placed inside the custodial facility because of the family’s threat on his life following the molestation.
“He might be mobbed by other detainees due to the anger of the family,” Gabana said.
He said frustrated murder will be filed against the female suspect while Balangen is under hospital arrest and being guarded by policemen.
Balangen will be charged with rape in relation to violation of Republic Act 7610 or the “Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act”, and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
The soldier was arrested last Saturday when he committed the alleged molestation.
Balangen went absent without official leave (Awol) after he was relieved from his post at the Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion (IB) based in Negros Oriental. (Glazyl Masculino)
