Presidential chief legal counsel and spokesman Salvador Panelo will be the guest speaker in a Christmas assembly seminar for “Light the Torch to Correct History” at the Aberdeen Court in Quezon City on Dec. 22.
Batangas Gov. Hermilando Mandanas is the keynote speaker in the event which aims to correct the history of the Philippine Revolution and the 1899-1902 Philippine-American War.
The occasion coincides with the launching of an all-star cast movie on the life of national hero Gen. Miguel Malvar, the last general who surrendered to the American forces. Boxing icon and Sen. Manny Pacquiao plays the role of Malvar.
Lawyer and producer Jose Malvar Villegas Jr., grandson of Malvar, said it is only now that many are supporting the production of the movie because of President Duterte’s advocacy for an independent foreign policy “that cuts the strangle-hold of the Americans on the lives of Filipinos.”
Villegas said Filipinos should continue to fight foreign intervention in the affairs of government and the lives of the people so as not to destroy “our Filipino culture, heritage, and nationalistic spirit.”
