MULANAY, Quezon – Hours before New Year’s Eve, five family members died after the tricycle they were riding collided with a van along national highway in Barangay Sta. Rosa, this town.
Police Major Joselito Araja, town police chief, identified the fatalities as Manny, Benny Jay, Cristy Bercero, Crirjane, Crisjay, all surnamed Reymundo.
Police said the victims’ tricycle was en route to the town proper at about 8:30 a.m. when it collided with a van driven by Arnel Auriada Tesico, a resident of San Andres, Quezon.
The van, which was heading to Catanauan town, overtook another vehicle and smashed into tricycle, according to police report.
The victims were rushed by responding police and rescue teams to hospital, where they were all declared dead on arrival.
Police arrested the driver of the van and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in the multiple homicide and damage to property. (Danny Estacio)
