Malacañang hopes that government workers would work harder following the signing of the Salary Standardization Law of 2019.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo yesterday confirmed that President Duterte signed the measure that grants salary increases to government workers in four tranches from fiscal year 2020 to fiscal year 2023.
Panelo said the new compensation scheme is competitive with those of the private sector to attract or maintain talented human resources.
“The Palace hopes that this latest round of salary adjustment will motivate everyone in the public sector to work doubly hard and put more dedicated and competent service in their respective jobs,” he said.
Panelo said the measure will rationalize the compensation of all civilian personnel, including those in the Legislative and Judicial branches, as well as of the local government units under certain conditions, for the purpose of creating an atmosphere which would promote excellence in the service.
It also provides for a performance-based incentive scheme to reward outstanding public servants.
“The law is aimed at benefitting those hardworking men and women in the government, including our teachers and nurses, who, unfortunately, have been neglected in the past,” he said.
The new compensation scheme raises the minimum basic salary or Salary Grade 1 for government employees from P11,068 to P13,000.
Meanwhile, Panelo said Duterte can still give the promised P10,000 increase in the salary of teachers, saying the Chief Executive still has two years to work on his promise.
“The promise of the President will be complied with – maybe not this year but his term has not yet ended. We must remember that the increase will depend on the funds that this government has,” he said.
“For as long as there is tomorrow, there is hope,” he added. (Argyll Geducos)
