Is Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero on his way out of the Bureau of Customs?
A report said Guerrero is being replaced as the head of the BoC by President Duterte after the Chief Executive reportedly offered the post to Davao-based businessman William de Jesus Lima over dinner in Malacanang Wednesday.
Guerrero said yesterday that he is clueless and surprised by the report which broke out on the day he was about to lay the bureau’s accomplishments under his leadership.
“Ako mismo hindi ko rin alam and I’m still waiting guidance from the President and Secretary of Finance,” Guerrero said.
The Customs commissioner also said that he met the President last Tuesday during the command conference of the Armed Force of the Philippines and Philippine National Police but Duterte did not mention anything to him.
“I also attended the command conference with the AFP, PNP last Tuesday and wala namang sinabi sa akin so I’m still waiting for any guidance from the President,” Guerrero said.
He stressed that there was no hint from the President about any move to appoint a new Customs chief.
“Ako rin mismo nagtataka. In due time, everything will be planned,” the Customs commissioner added.
Guerrero, who was appointed in October 2018 to replace Commissioner Isidro LapeƱa over the smuggling of shabu in magnetic lifters, however, recognized the fact that he can be replaced any time if the President decides to.
“I am here because I am an appointed official so depende na sa Presidente ‘yan kung anong desisyon niya,” he said. (Betheena Unite)
