The eruption of Taal Volcano delayed President Duterte’s arrival in Manila.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo reported that Duterte could not fly to Manila from Davao City Sunday due to zero visibility in some areas in the South due to the eruption.
However, Duterte was able to leave Davao City yesterday morning and arrived a few hours before noon.
Duterte will push through with his scheduled visit to the Philippine Marine Corps in Taguig City yesterday afternoon despite the suspension of government work following the eruption.
“The Marines event this afternoon will push through. He could not fly to Manila from Davao last night because visibility was and could still be zero,” he said.
“But he told me he would be flying this morning and might land in Clark instead and proceed to Manila by land. He will take whatever transportation available to be able to reach Manila today,” he added.
Panelo said appropriate agencies are doing what they need to do in times of calamity per direction of the President.
He assured the public that Duterte is on top of the situation and has instructed authorities to make sure people near the volcano are “out of the danger zone.” (Argyll Geducos)
