The low-pressure area being monitored by the State weather bureau since last weekend has dissipated but another LPA formed east of the country yesterday.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Ariel Rojas said the new LPA was estimated 410 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
The weather disturbance may not develop into a tropical cyclone and could eventually dissipate within 24 hours. The LPA is not expected to have a direct impact on Mindanao, he said.
For now, the prevailing weather systems across the country are the tail-end of cold front, northeast monsoon or “amihan,” and localized thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Batangas may experience light rains due to the combined effects of Taal Volcano’s activity and the amihan.
The possibility of reduced visibility and mudflow during ash fall and occurrence of light to moderate rains remains. There is also a potential for isolated thunderstorms in the vicinity of the volcano. (Ellalyn Ruiz)
