Thirty Filipinos have been repatriated from Haiti.
The Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. said that they are set to arrive in the country yesterday.
They left Haiti due to unstable economic and security situation “due to continuous civil unrest, crime, and kidnapping.”
The repatriates – 21 adults and nine minors – were repatriated by a team led by Deputy Chief of Mission Renato Pedro O. Villa and Assistance-to-Nationals Officer Ryan Dasal.
Camilo Duran, one of the OFWs, thanked President Duterte, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. for the necessary assistance that enabled them to fly home safely.
It was learned that they had to seek the help of the United States Embassy in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti which allowed their transit via New York City.
Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel G. Romualdez assured that distressed OFWs in the United States and the Caribbean will be assisted in time of need.
“Ensuring the safety and well-being of our OFWs remain a top priority of the Philippine government,” said Romualdez.
