President Duterte thanked members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormons, for giving him a copy of the Bible and a personalized image of Jesus Christ during a courtesy call at the Malago Clubhouse in Malacanang last Wednesday.
Malacanang said Duterte shared his experience on Bible reading before becoming president to his visitors.
Duterte has shown different views about the Bible.
He repeatedly stated that his favorite verse in the Bible is Ecclesiastes 3 which states that there is a time for everything.
However, he has criticized the writers of the Bible.
Duterte said what they wrote had little relevance to current times as it was written 3,000 years ago.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints discussed with Duterte important issues confronting the country during the meeting.
“The religious group expressed its concern on the effects of the Taal Volcano eruption to the local residents in Batangas and nearby provinces. The group also discussed with President Duterte the illegal drug trade problem as well as the peace and order situation in the Philippines,” Malacanang said. (Argyll Cyrus B. Geducos)
