A man, who allegedly caused a fire that killed six people and injured six others in Tondo, Manila last week, surrendered to Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso before dawn Sunday.
Inspector John Joseph Jalique, chief investigator of the Manila Fire Department, identified the suspect as Eduardo Loteyro, a resident of the area.
Loteyro is now under the custody of the Manila Police District (MPD).
Jalique said they have yet to determine Loteyro’s reasons for causing the fire but confirmed that the blaze originated from his house on Yuseco Street in Tondo.
The fire that occurred on Jan.16 killed six people, including a mother and her three young children; and injured six others, including two of the alleged arsonist’s kin.
The blaze also damaged 20 structures and rendered 40 families homeless.
Jalique said they are preparing charges for consumated arson against the suspect.
