PLARIDEL, Bulacan – A former vice mayor and a village chief were killed when two-motorcycle-riding armed men peppered them with bullets in Barangay Bulihan, this town, Sunday afternoon.
Colonel Emma M. Libunao, acting Bulacan police director, identified the victims as former Vice Mayor Oscar Marquez of Barangay Manatal, and incumbent Barangay Captain Mauro Capistrano of Barangay Bagbaguin, both of Pandi, Bulacan.
Marquez is a brother of former Mayor Celestino Marquez of Pandi.
Initial police investigation showed that the victims arrived at a Petron gasoline station in Barangay Bulihan here on board a white Toyota Fortuner (NBU-7644) Sunday noon.
The victims proceeded to Mang Celo Eatery to meet a client regarding the sale of a lot.
Upon reaching the place, the suspects arrived and immediately shot Capistrano, killing him on the spot. Marquez managed to run away toward the gasoline station but was pursued and repeatedly shot by the suspects until he fell down in a grassy vacant lot.
Police are still investigating the incident.
It was recalled that sometimes in the first week of April last year, the eldest daughter of the former vice mayor, Pamela, was ambushed by three unidentified gunmen in Barangay Bunsuran, Pandi.
Pamela bore gunshot wounds in the body and was treated in a hospital. (Freddie Velez)
