ILIGAN CITY – Two barangay councilmen were shot dead on Monday by an unidentified armed man at the hall of Barangay Dominorog in Talakag town, Bukidnon.
Police Captain Dominador V. Orate of Talakag Municipal Police Station identified the victims as Lorenzo Pedya-an and Mauricio Ginto, both councilors of the said barangay.
Pedya-an died on the spot while Ginto was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.
Initial investigation showed that the victims were about to enter the gate of the barangay hall to attend a session at 9 a.m. on Monday when an unidentified gunman suddenly shot them at pointblank range.
Pedya-an was hit in chest and tried to ran away from the suspect but he fell down and died, while Ginto was declared dead on arrival at the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital.
The gunman fled towards Pangantucan, Bukidnon, police said.
Crime scene investigators from Bukidnon Police led by Lt. Cerilo Arcilla Jr. recovered four cartridges of a .45-caliber gun.
