The Department of Health yesterday said that more than 3,000 evacuees affected by the recent eruption of Taal Volcano have sought medical consultation for different common illnesses.
“As of yesterday, we recorded 3,773 cases of common illnesses for which consultation were sought,” said Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
Illnesses experienced by the evacuees were common respiratory illnesses, hypertension, diarrhea, eye irritation, and skin diseases.
“These are not surprising, considering the congestion in evacuation centers and the harmful effects of the eruption of Taal Volcano,” said Duque.
The Health chief assured that there is enough supply of medicines in the different evacuation centers.
Duque said that they are also conducting immunization activities in the evacuation sites.
“We wanted to take advantage of having a captive market to provide them the necessary vaccines,” he said.
The Health chief said that it is their objective to bring back the evacuees “to normalcy as soon as possible.” (Analou de Vera)
