A soldier was killed while two policemen were wounded in a shooting incident in Marikina City last Friday.
Marikina police identified the fatality as Staff Sgt. Marvin Balucas.
The two injured policemen were Police Executive Master Sgt. Demetrio Sarita Magpali Jr. and Police Master Sgt. Edward Yap, both assigned to the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
Investigation showed that the policemen were aboard motorcycles on A. Bonifacio Ave. in Barangay Barangka at around 11:30 a.m. when Balucas drew a gun and fired at the victims.
One of the policemen reportedly retaliated and wounded Balucas.
Closed-circuit television footage from the Marikina Rescue 161 said Balucas drawing a gun and firing at the policemen.
The Eastern Police District said Yap sustained bullet wounds in the head and body. Magpali, on the other hand, was wounded in the lower left leg.
Balucas was not in uniform and was wearing a denim short pants, a blue T-shirt, and a black vest during the incident.
The fatality and the victims were taken to the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center in Marikina. (Jel Santos)
