Last season’s Most Valuable Player Necole Ebuen is slowly getting back to her old form after powering three-time defending champion Arellano University to a 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 win over San Beda University in the NCAA Season 95 women’s volleyball Monday at The Arena in San Juan.
Ebuen, who had a knee injury and flu prior to the tournament, shattered the game’s last deadlock at 22 with a kill before producing the match-clinching block off Nieza Viray.
“Kailangan kong ibalik ang dating laro kasi kailangan ako ng team. Kumbaga, hindi lang si ate Regine ang gumalaw sa team. Lahat, kailangang mag-contribute,” said Ebuen.
She finished with 12 points while Regine Arocha, who won MVP honors in 2017 and 2018, topscored for Arellano with 18 points, including three aces and two blocks, and 15 digs.
“Masaya na nakakatulong na uli ako sa team kasi talagang kailangang ibalik ang sarili – yung dating laro ko,” added Ebuen.
Arellano’s win gave the team solo lead in the standings at 5-0 ahead of College of St. Benilde, which is also unbeaten at 4-0.
The Lady Red Spikers absorbed their first defeat after starting the season with three straight wins.
Cesca Racraquin led SBU with 16 points and 16 digs while Viray added 14 markers and nine receptions for San Beda.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Losa had 18 points, 15 digs and 23 receptions as San Beda dealt Arellano its first loss in the men’s division with a 25-15, 25-19, 23-25, 25-16 decision.
In the other women’s match, University of Perpetual Help downed Jose Rizal University in straight sets, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20.
