The government is determined to put a stop to the alleged proliferation of prostitution dens supposedly catering to foreigners in the country.
Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said the government will investigate such illegal activity and arrest those behind it.
“We will have that investigated. If that is true, then we will have to do something about it,” Panelo said during a Palace press briefing.
Asked to elaborate on the government’s action plan, Panelo said: “Like stopping prostitution and arresting those who are involved in it.”
Senator Risa Hontiveros has initiated an inquiry into the alleged Chinese prostitution dens following the rise of offshore gaming hubs in the country. Hontiveros, chair of the Senate committee on women, said sexual services were reportedly offered through online messaging applications, similar to the food menu of restaurants.
Hontiveros has called on the law enforcement authorities to dismantle such sex dens allegedly patronized by patronized by Chinese workers in the Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs). (Genalyn Kabiling)
