BUTUAN CITY – A barangay chairman was shot to death Wednesday morning by two motorcycle-riding men at Purok 2, Barangay Bayabas, Cabadbaran City in Agusan del Norte, police reported.
An initial report received by the Caraga Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) showed that the victim, Nelson G. Mata, 49, barangay chairman of Bayabas, Cabadbaran City, was killed at 5:30 a.m.
The victim was buying a cigarette at a sari-sari store when two men on board a red Honda XRM motorcycle arrived and shot the victim at close range using a 9mm pistol, police said.
The victim died on the spot from bullet wounds in the chest, according to the report of Cabadbaran City Police Station.
The suspects immediately fled after the shooting.
As of press time, the Cabadbaran Police Station and Agusan del Norte Police Provincial were conducting investigation. (Mike Crismundo)
