National University-Nazareth School moved two wins away from completing a 14-game sweep of the elims by repeating over University of Santo Tomas while Ateneo pulled off a sweet revenge in the UAAP Boys’ Basketball Tournament at the Blue Eagle gym in Quezon City.
As expected NU’s ‘Fab 4’ of Gerry Abadiano, Terrence Fortea, Carl Tamayo and Kevin Quiambao struck again, posting double-digit scores as the Bullpups stayed undefeated in 12 games.
Abadiano tallied 18 points, Fortea 13 while Tamayo and Quiambao posted 12 apiece with the former adding 14 rebounds as they underscored the team’s desire to retain the title via a grand sweep.
The Blue Eaglets, on the other hand, booted out round tormentor University of the East with a 78-54 beatdown – thanks to superb showing in the middle quarters where the Katipunan-based squad outscored their rivals from Recto, 49-18.
Ateneo lost to UE in the first round, 81-80, off a buzzer-beating putback by Natz San Juan.
In other games, FEU-Diliman extended its winning streak to 11 after eliminating De La Salle-Zobel, 65-46, while Adamson University waylaid University of the Philippines Integrated School, 81-70.
Jorick Bautista flashed his all-around brilliance with 23 points, 13 rebounds, five steals, and four assists while Chiolo Anonuevo had 10 points, nine boards, and four steals as FEU rose to 11-1.
The Tiger Cubs and the Baby Falcons are now tied for the fourth and fifth seeds at 6-6.
