BACOLOD CITY – An escapee from Sagay City District Jail in Negros Occidental was recaptured in Barangay Villamonte here last Thursday, a day after he went on hiding.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) earlier announced that they will give a cash reward of P25,000 to those who can provide lead for his recapture.
Maj. Reynante Jomocan, head of Police Station 4, said they responded to the area when they received information that Ronel
Sebuan, 24, of Barangay Tadlong, Sagay City, was spotted in Barangay Villamonte around 9 a.m.
Jomocan said BJMP personnel coordinated with them and launched an operation to arrest the escapee.
However, during the operation, Sebuan resisted and fled on board a passenger jeepney.
A brief chase followed until they cornered Sebuan in the same village, where an exchange of gunfire occurred between the BJMP personnel and the escapee.
No injuries were reported. Sebuan was recaptured and was transported to Sagay City.
Sebuan escaped from jail around 7:15 p.m. last Wednesday by jumping off the facility’s perimeter wall. He reportedly fled on board a stolen motorcycle.
