BACOLOD CITY – A drug suspect allegedly suffering from depression was rescued after he climbed the 150-foot tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Barangay Mansilingan here last Wednesday.
Maj. Carmelo Nermal, head of Police Station 7, said Ives Pelowa, 33, attempted to jump off the tower around 10 a.m., because he was allegedly prohibited from seeing his children.
Nermal said Pelowa decided to come down six hours later when he saw his family in the area, persuading him to calm down.
He was unharmed. He was then brought by the authorities at the barangay hall, where he confessed his reasons for his actions to the village chief.
Nermal said Pelowa admitted that he was under the influence of drugs when he attempted to commit suicide that afternoon.
He (Pelowa) also surrendered a sachet of suspected shabu amounting to P45,000 to the village chief, the station commander added.
Pelowa was placed under police custody after the incident, and was safely brought home by his family the following day after he underwent medical examination.
Pelowa was arrested last year in a drug bust here and was released from jail through plea bargaining in May 2019. (Glazyl Masculino)
